Dutch/Flemish : difficult? No, not really!
In Antwerp we speak Flemish.
Is this a language on its own? No, Flemish has the same grammar as Dutch which is spoken by our sisters and brothers in the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
But there are some regional differences in pronunciation. French influence can be heard with a lot of Flemish words. These words are usually not well understood by the Dutch. But in general Dutch and Flemish people understand eachother perfectly.
Ofcourse we joke about eachother. Flemish call Dutch thrifty, arrogant and unpolite. Dutch call Flemish dumb, lazy and unorganised. But after a few drinks we embrace eachother and sing together.
