B&B Alegria

Enjoy the authentic Antwerp atmosphere!
Welcome to B&B Alegria
B&B Alegria is located within a 10 minutes walking distance from Antwerp Central Station and Keyserlei, the city's main street.
Antwerp is a compact city, so you can easily explore the city by foot. Or use Antwerp's Velo/Bicycle System for a day - an easy and cheap way to discover Antwerp. Ofcourse you can always use our public transport system De Lijn for tram, subway and bus.
It's a 20 minutes walk to Antwerp's main shopping street Meir and Schuttershofstraat with its exclusive boutiques and Kammen- and Kloosterstraat with its fashion, vintage and antique shops - paradise for those who love fashion and trendy shops.
Be sure to visit Grote Markt (Main Square) with its 16th century Town Hall in neo-classical style and Brabo Statue which depicts the famous legend of how Antwerpen got its name. Fact or fiction? Who knows?

Next to the Town Hall you will find two typical Antwerp pubs called 'Engel' (Angel) and 'Bengel' (Naughty Boy) - up to you which one to pick. You might even bump into our mayor or one of the aldermen drinking a 'Bolleke', our local Antwerp beer.
Groenplaats (Green Square) used to be a cemetery, but don't worry, the graves have been removed and today the square is wellknown for its restaurants and pubs and Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekathedraal (Our Devine Lady's Cathedral). In the Middle Ages trade was done in this part of town, streetnames are still silent witnesses of this : Suikerrui (sugar), Kaasrui (cheese), Oude Korenmarkt (wheatmarket) etc. Walk along the impressive river Scheldt, which throughout centuries has brought prosperity and wealth to Antwerp.

B&B Alegria
B&B Alegria is located in a vibrant international district known as Permeke District with all kinds of exotic shops, restaurants and markets. International trade through Antwerp port has through the years brought a lot of migrants to Antwerp and this part of town because of its close vicinity to the port.
Since a few years young artists and and other creative minds have settled down in this district which has resulted in a lot of  creative activities and festivities.
Just around the corner you will find China Town with its numerous Asian shops and oriental restaurants where you still will be served authentic oriental cuisine.
Our house is a so called 'burgerwoning' (built for middle-class people) constructed in 1928, renovated with
conservation of the original Art Deco elements but adapted to present-day's comfort.
It will be our pleasure to advice you where to find attractive places and special activities in Antwerp.
